Wayne Trace visits Fairview in GMC clash

A pair of GMC foes that like slinging the ball around will usher in the 2020 campaign on Friday night at Fairview when Mike Speice’s Wayne Trace squad makes the jaunt up U.S. 127.
“It’s a typical Doug Rakes team,” assessed Speice of facing the reigning GMC champions. “They’re going to throw the ball, they’re going to mix in some runs and they’ll be solid everywhere. Their senior class is very good, they’ve been playing since their freshmen year and are battle tested. So, we’re not going to throw many things at them they haven’t seen before.”
The Apaches do have some key pieces missing from back-to-back seasons of playoff runs.
First-team all-Ohioans Chayse Singer (LB) and Cade Polter (QB) are missing along with Riley Lucas (WR/OLB), Riley Puffinberger (OG), Ethan Thompson (OT), Sam McGuire (DE) and Noah Hagerman (CB).

St. Francis visits St. John’s to kickoff season

A pair of Three Rivers Athletic Conference foes looking to make noise again this fall will tee up on Friday night when St. Francis visits St. John’s at Lyden Field.
The Titans claimed a 24-10 triumph in the clash of the Glass City rivals last year.
“They are a well-coached team with exceptional senior leaders in key spots,” explained fourth-year St. Francis mentor Dan Chipka. “We will have our work cut out for us on both sides of the ball … but we will be ready to go. Expect to see a hard-fought, impassioned game that adds to the rich tradition of this rivalry game.”

One of NWOAL’s top games to start year: LC at Wauseon

When Liberty Center invades Wauseon’s Harmon Field on Friday night, two of the NWOAL’s premier programs going into the new season will be on display. Both programs are coming off regional semifinal playoff appearances. LC trimmed Wauseon, 35-29, in last year’s meeting on a Saturday at Rex Lingruen Stadium. The game was pushed to Saturday due to thunderstorms the night before.
