Columbus Grove heads into NWC playoffs with No. 1 seed

HARROD – Columbus Grove locked up the top seed from the Northwest Conference’s East Division on Friday with a 30-21 victory at Allen East.
Grove, which ended round-robin play in the NWC at 3-0, will host Delphos Jefferson in the opening round of the conference playoff next Friday.
The Bulldogs looked like they were going to romp over the Mustangs (2-1) on Friday, jumping out to a 17-0 lead 4:05 into the second stanza after Colin Metzger hit paydirt on a two-yard run.

PH puts unbeaten season on line at Bryan

Bill Inselmann’s young Patrick Henry squad will get its toughest test to date when the 2-0 Patriots visit 1-1 Bryan on Friday.
“We’re pleased with how we’re progressing,” said Inselmann. “We’ve had to replace a lot of kids from last season, so we’re young and we see some steady improvement. We’ve looked good at times and we’ve looked young at times.
“At the same time, we have the toughest part of our schedule coming up,” added Inselmann. “We’re really going to have to make some big improvements this week.”

Central trying to stay unbeaten with trip to St. Francis

Toledo rivas St. Francis and Central Catholic will renew acquaintances on Friday when the Irish visit the Knights.
Central is coming off a big, 49-42, triumph over St. John’s, which was considered a main threat to the Irish coming into the season. Greg Dempsey’s squad also thumped Lima Senior, 55-0, in week 1.
“I think offensively we’re in a little better spot than we thought,” said Dempsey. “Although I think there can be a false sense of security you get from not knowing this early. The lack of scrimmages really puts people at disadvantages in certain areas. Yeah, we’ve scored points … but are you really as good as you think or are you just getting big plays? What are we really?”
