Pair of 2-1 GMC foes open league play with Tinora at Antwerp

The GMC favorite and a rising challenger will duke it out Friday night in Antwerp with Tinora in town.
Both conference combatants stand 2-1 heading into the tussle.
“Overall assessment of the first three weeks is that we are getting better each week,” said third-year Antwerp frontman Jason Hale. “We played a closer game than the score indicated with a very good Edon team. Our guys are starting to see the benefits of implementing everything we do in practice. We have some guys starting to make plays on both sides of the ball and it is great to see.
“We have to keep putting ourselves in great positions. We are plus-3 in the turnover category so we have to continue to take care of the ball and be efficient offensively. The defense has to keep running to the ball and making tackles.”
Antwerp played an all-TAAC non-conference slate with routes of Hilltop and Montpelier while falling 41-26 to unbeaten Edon.
Meanwhile, the Rams played a rugged non-conference schedule against Liberty Center (lost 23-21), Wauseon (won 23-13) and Leipsic (won 23-20).

Antwerp, Edon seeking 2-0 starts

Two teams seeking 2-0 starts will square off Friday as Antwerp will head to Edon to take on the Bombers.
Both teams cruised in week one with Edon posting a 49-22 win at Edgerton while Antwerp captured a 49-8 victory over Montpelier.
“We got off to a pretty good start and executed well,” said veteran coach Bob Olwin, who is in year two guiding Edon. “But then we had a bunch of penalties. We were a little sloppy that way.”
The Bombers jumped out to a 26-0 lead on Edgerton while the Archers led 35-0 after one quarter and 49-0 at halftime.
